Heat index/wind chill

Postby ADT » Sat May 24, 2008 1:30 pm

So far, my son and I have installed and perfected an outdoor temp and humidity sensor. We have built our own pagoda style of Stevenson shield, and have mounted it on a post outside, where it has been working for two months now.

We are currently working on programing an anenometer (a Vortex unit), in which the wind speed is calculated using a different formula than for the AAG unit... It should be installed and running as soon as our roof is fixed from the last storm...

Here is my question: Is there any way to code up a few lines of code to calculate the wind chill and or heat index from the temp, humidity and wind speed? Has anyone done this yet?

Just curious.

(After the anenometer is finished, the next project is the wind direction unit)

ADT,

For the "standard" formula, see:

Thanks! I have copied those equations and will start to write code this week. I am glad that these equations do not use integrals!

Thank you for finding those equations for me. They are very complex, and I am not a Java coder really, I simply follow along with the book. I guess that my next question is does anyone know where to find Java objects to calculate the HI and wind chill? I did a quick Google search and the closest thing that I found was an online class assignment to calculate HI in Java, but no object...

Thanks again,

Here is the code at the following link.

I will be ameding it shortly because if needs a 'if' statement as the Heat Index is only valid over a certain temperature.

I hope to do the wind chill shortly.
